Review: HardKorr Bushmaster 4200TE Compact Camper

Gary Tischer — 4 July 2022
The HardKorr Bushmaster 4200TE packs a big punch for its small footprint and light weight.

If you have an adventure planned, hook this camper up, throw in a fridge and you are ready to go. This trailer is no light weight when it comes to value for money. It only weighs in at 1,290kg dry with an ATM of 1,800kg and comes with plenty of features built in. There is a fridge slide that can handle up to a 110L fridge which is more than enough capacity for a BIG trip away from it all.

The Build

The camper sits on a full length 150mm x 50mm hot dip galvanised steel chassis used by caravans over twice the weight of the HardKorr Bushmaster 4200TE. This is how rear recovery points can be built in for the odd occasion you may have taken on an obstacle needing a second attempt.

The heavy duty fully independent suspension has twin big bore shocks to smooth out those corrugations. The body has plenty of storage hatches with double compression locks and weather seals to keep the water and dust out. Still not a good idea to get bogged in Nolan’s Brook as it’s not a submarine. If you do happen to need to wash off, there is a hand pump for water on the outside as well as the normal 12v water pump when you are at camp. One of the unique aspects of the water system are the hydraulic plugs used for the shower and sink plumbing. These are super strong and super easy to use without any leaks.

Battery power is supplied by 2 x 100ah AGM batteries as standard. As you would expect from a HardKorr camper there are plenty of lights around the trailer including in every hatch and one over the cooking area so you can see how rare or well done your steaks are. The 12v system is fully featured with plenty of USB charging for your phones and gauges so you know how much is left in the batteries.

Living with the Bushmaster 4200TE

Everything is modular with the camper meaning that you can set up kitchen and awing without the tent if you are hanging out on the beach for the day. If you are doing a quick overnight, set up the rooftop tent with king size bed on top of the trailer and use the kitchen without the awning. When you have arrived at that top destination you are thinking of now, setup everything and you’ll be done in 15 minutes or less. More time having fun, less time setting up.

Bushmaster 4200TE setup

If you have some bikes to take with you, there is a 50mm hitch perfect for a bike rack. Just make sure you have one that folds down so you can get to the fridge. There is a slide for a generator just in case they are ebikes and another slide for the Webber for those BBQs.

The awning is from Darche and is free-standing if there is no breeze, although there are drop down legs for peace of mind if the wind does come up. The Darche shower tent is easy to set up and very useful for getting changed in when at the beach. The hot water system is a great option and very easy to setup with the plumbing already in place.

The Kitchen

A two burner Dometic gas stove and a stainless steel sink with mixer tap are standard and form the centre piece of the pullout kitchen. There is a light over the kitchen and 12v points built into the slide. A large cutlery drawer slides out from below the stove and there are plenty of slide out drawer storage for food and large pots/pans. A large foldout preparation area is next to the cooktop and it has drop-down legs when extra support is needed for heavy pots and chopping. This is a great kitchen which has the potential to turn the average punter into a gourmet chef.

The Bottom Line

The HardKorr Bushmaster 4200TE is based on an Aussie designed chassis aimed at tackling the toughest tracks. With the huge amount of storage, plenty of features, this go anywhere trailer has bang for buck.
